Sephora Play! Box May 2016: Wasting My Money So You Don’t Have To

Like a lot of other beauty lovers I was super excited when our beloved Sephora announced they would be starting a monthly subscription box service. I’ve not had much luck with subscription beauty boxes but I figured Sephora might be a hit because they have a lot the brands that I love.

Fast forward months of being on the waitlist I finally received my first Play! Box this month.

The May 2016 box included samples of:

Atelier Cologne- Orange Sanguine
BITE Beauty- Amuse Bouche in “Kimchi”
Tarte- Tarteist Lip Crayon in “Latergram”
Origins- Maskimizer, Drink Up & Clear Improvement Masks
Korres- Wild Rose Sleeping Facial
Briogeo- Don’t Despair Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask

Now this review isn’t on the actual products themselves but more on the box as a whole and I’m pretty disappointed. I expected a higher quality more personalized feel to the box from a high-end store like Sephora. The box is only $10 per month but the samples are TINY. I feel like I could get better samples and products through using my points perks and/or just asking for samples in the store, so I’m not really sure what I’m paying for. None of the products were really “deluxe samples” or full sized. I would have much rather have received less products in bigger sizes. I also think it may be nice to have something with a more “exclusive” feel like samples of a product that hasn’t been released yet or just anything I couldn’t walk into the store and get a sample of for free.

I’m going to try to hang in there with Sephora for one more month to see if I like June’s box any better.
