I’m always on the hunt for the best foundations out which can be a struggle for a brown girl. BECCA is one of my favorite brands and has a pretty wide range of foundation shades and undertones so I had to pick up their Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme. I ordered online based on swatches and went with the shade “Tobacco”, which turned out to be a pretty good match for me. For reference I’m wear “Macao” in NARS Sheer Glow, “177” in MUFE HD, NC50ish in MAC. It looks too light in the swatch on my hand, but my left arm is VERY tan from driving etc.
Now on on to the performance. My first use of this foundation I had a really hard time getting it to spread evenly on my skin but I later realized I was using a primer that was way too tacky. After that little snafu I learned that the Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme applied much better with a creamy primer, or over moisturizer with no primer on my dry skin. It’s definitely gives full coverage without looking heavy or cakey.
The one thing that I really did not like about this foundation is that it wears away under my eyes by my tear ducts at the slightest watery eye. I tested this foundation over about two weeks and coincidentally my allergies were acting up a few days. No matter what combination of primer-corrector-concealer-powder product and technique that I used I would always look in the mirror after my eye had watered the tiniest bit and the makeup was just gone. Very disappointing. I’ve never had this problem with other foundations and I don’t think my eyes were super watery. The foundation wore well on the rest of my face and I had no problems in any other areas. In all I really like the foundation when I’m looking for a full coverage base but I definitely will not be using it tear duct/under eye area.
