My skin has been feeling a little clogged up and gross, especially those stubborn pores on the top of my nose. I’m a sucker for a good face mask so I decided to try out activated charcoal in a DIY mix. Activated charcoal is supposed to help suck up oils and impurities from your pores. I used bentonite clay as a base which is also supposed to draw out impurities from the skin. I have dry skin and I both the charcoal and the clay can be drying, so I added some coconut oil to my mix to try to avoid drying out my skin. You can probably leave the oil out if you have very oily skin. To mix everything together I added apple cider vinegar. It has antibacterial properties and also helps to tone and tighten the skin.
Coconut Oil: I used fractionated because it doesn’t clog pores but use whatever kind you have on hand
*TIP* Remember to use plastic utensils because bentonite clay should not be mixed with metal tools
Start with about 2 tbs of Indian Healing Clay
Add about 1 tbs of Activated Charcoal
Add 1 tbs of Coconut Oil
Finish by adding Apple Cider Vinegar until you get a frosting like consistency
I applied the mix with my fingers all over my face and neck. I let the mix sit until it was about 85% dry before rinsing.
*TIP* Don’t let your clay mask dry completely to avoid drying out your skin and have an easier time getting it off
The mask left my skin feeling super clean and even cleared up those pesky clogged pores on my nose. I think I’m loving this DIY mix right now, I probably won’t use it over my whole face very often but it works wonders on my nose.
