Quick Review: Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner & Styling Lotion
Shea Moisture is constantly pumping out new products faster than I can keep up and try them all. I was really excited when I heard about their Jamaican Black Castor Oil line because its one of my favorite oils to use on my hair but its so thick that I can’t use it very much on my fine hair. I tried out two products in the hope these products would give me the same effect with out the heaviness of pure JBCO.
Shea Moisture really loves these super long product names
“A reparative leave-in conditioner that softens and detangles hair. Nourishes, moisturizes and supports elasticity so hair resists breakage when detangling. Conditioners provide a protective layer that improves the appeararance of split ends. Peppermint oil stimulates the scalp for an invigorating experience.”
I never really saw the purpose of a “leave-in” as opposed to just a hair lotion but after trying this product I think I might be on the leave-in bandwagon. I really loved this product on my hair, as you can tell from the icky bottle lol but I wear it’s a drop of product left in there that I’m going to use! It was so good at locking in the moisture but it didn’t weigh my hair down at all or make it feel sticky. The leave in had a natural, earth, kind of scent reminiscent of JBCO but not as strong, it didn’t bother me but I didn’t particularly love it either. I never experienced anything “invigorating” on my scalp while using this product, so I’m not too sure about that claim. I will definitely repurchase this one in the future.

“An oil-based lotion that protects hair while restoring moisture and shine. Ultra-moisturizing formula protects against the damaging effects of heat styling. Increases hair’s resistance to breakage, so hair can grow strong and healthy.”
Now I’m a sucker for a good styling lotion, and I love Shea Moisture’s Coconut and Hibiscus lotion, so of course I had to give this one a try. Once again from the empty bottle you can tell that I loved it. The lotion had a thicker heavier consistency than the leave-in so I found myself using it more on my dry hair mostly when I rebraided at night. Although it was thicker it still absorbed really well into my hair and made it soft without leaving behind in major residue or stickiness. The styling lotion had the same natural scent as the leave in but it’s not strong so it’s not a deal breaker for me. I’ll probably repurchase this product again, after I go through the 5 other bottles of hair lotion sitting in my cabinet.
