Hair Holy Grail: Shea Moisture African Black Soap Shampoo & Conditioner
After a horrific encounter with an Organix brand shampoo and conditioner that left my scalp flaky and irritated I decided to try the African Black Soap line from my fave brand Shea Moisture to help get me back to normal.
African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo
Shea Moisture Says…
Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo gently cleanses as it removes buildup from styling products and soothes dry, itchy and flaking scalp. Helps regulate sebum production. Sulfate-free. Our special blend of soothing Plantain Enzymes, clarifying Tea Tree Oil and Willow Bark Extract removes product buildup and strengthens hair by sealing in natural moisture. Helps calm scalp irritations for healthy hair with a brilliant shine.
My Thoughts…
I’ve been using this shampoo for several months and I’m pretty sure I’ll be using it for many more to come. This is one of the best, if not the best, sulfate free shampoos that I have found for my hair. The scent is earthy and sweet, with a hint of banana from the plantain enzymes. It gets my scalp super clean and eliminates any build up and leaves no flakes behind which I love. It has a nice lather which I also like, this is complete personal preference but I just don’t feel as clean when using a cleanser with no bubbles. The only con that I’ve come across is that it can be drying on the hair but it’s nothing that following up with a conditioner doesn’t fix. Definitely a winner in my book.
African Black Soap Balancing Conditioner
Shea Moisture Says…
Shea Moisture’s African Black Soap Balancing Conditioner moisturizes and detangles hair while it soothes dry, itchy and flaking scalp. Use as a pre-shampoo or rinse out conditioner, as needed. – Made with natural and certified organic ingredients. – Plaintain Enzyme helps to alleviate itchiness and irritation. – Tea Tree Oil removes buildup for enhanced shine and volume. – Willow Bark Extract exfoliates and detoxifies hair and scalp.
My Thoughts…
We’ve got another winner with this one. This conditioner feels so rich and creamy when it goes on the hair. I hate a thin runny conditioner, yes Organix I’m talking about you! It has the same pleasant earthy sweet smell as the conditioner that I enjoy. It leaves my fine hair feeling moisturized but not weighed down. It should also be noted that this conditioner does not contain any protein which is great for those that are protein sensitive. My hair likes protein so I usually follow up with a protein deep conditioner on days I need that extra boost. The only thing that I somewhat dislike about this conditioner is that it does not have a lot of slip. I usually detangle before I shampoo so it’s not a major con but for those that detangle in the shower (& me on my lazy days) you may want to supplement with something else.
